My Dairy-free life
Check out No Dairy, No Substitutes for my recipes!
Ever get tired of dairy-free recipes that call for the fake butter and the fake cheese? Sure, those things have their place, but there are plenty of yummy foods that aren’t trying to taste like dairy products.
When I was in my 20s and 30s, I would get painful, cystic acne every time I had anything with dairy in it. I didn't know there was a causal link, but after failing with medications, soaps, and anything else, I decided to give it a whirl, and I cut out dairy. Within three days, I noticed that the oil well of my face had started to dry out. It took several months for the skin to heal, but not having to live in daily pain was a great motivator to keep going. I had to cut out everything. I mean everything. If a meatball had breadcrumbs in it, and those breadcrumbs happened to be made with milk, I felt it. If the spaghetti sauce had a little Parmesan mixed in, I felt it.
I got good at making sauces from scratch. (It's really not hard.) Also, as someone who doesn't really like cheese, I got tired of all the recipes calling for fake dairy products, trying to replicate the creaminess that only comes from dairy. There is plenty of great food in the world that don't require dairy.
So I started a food blog... and I'm really bad at food photography.
